ECP rejects federal government's request to postpone the by elections
The by-elections on 09 NA and 03 PA seats are scheduled for October 16
The election Commission of Pakistan today rejected the request of Federal government to postpone the by- elections on 09 National and 03 provincial Assembly seats for 90 days. The by- elections are scheduled for October 16. Now the elections on all the NA and PA seats will takes place on schedule except NA-45 Kurram constituency. The ECP postponed the by poll on NA-45 due to law and order situation.
The ECP made a right decision as there was no solid reason for the postponement of by polls in all the constituencies. This decision will negate the impression that ECP is working hand in hand with coalition government and targeting the PTI. The local government elections in Karachi will also takes place on October 23 as scheduled.
The interior ministry wrote a letter to ECP for the postponement of by polls on the grounds of floods, non-availability of security forces and law and order situation. The government in its letter also used the PTI's possible long march as a reason to postpone the by polls.
The ECP made the decision during a meeting under the chairmanship of Chief election Commissioner Raja Sikandar Sultan. The ECP made this decision after a long deliberations with concerned authorities.
