Sherani forest fire completely put off- cooling process underway
The wildfire burnt down nearly 37% of ancient pine and olive forests in Sherani district of Balochistan
The wildfire in the pine (Chilgozha) and olive forests in Sherani district of Balochistan has been completely put out after nearly two weeks efforts. The civil administration, Pakistan Army, forest department, Frontier Corps (FC) with the help of helicopters and Iranian IL-76 firefighter aircraft played important role in the fire fighting and relief operations.
Now the teams are engaged in
cooling process in the mountains. The fire has burnt nearly 37% of the forests
which also badly affected the wild animals and birds.
An ISPR press release says that cooling is still underway after the forest fire was brought under control to prevent the possibility of another wildfire.
FC and Forest Department officials have reached the difficult mountains and taking stock of the situation. Relief operations by the district administration, FC, PDMA and NDMA have also entered the final stages.Earlier, the
firefighting operation was being controlled with the help of Army helicopters.
Firefighters, helicopter staff, and firefighter aircraft in the jungle remained
in constant touch to achieve this goal of completely extinguishing the fire.
All
necessary steps have also been taken to enable the survey teams to reach the
affected forests in which a comprehensive report will be prepared for
restoration of the forest including loss estimates.
