Supreme Court Bar elections-landslide victory for Ahsan Bhoon

 Ahsan Bhoon won the election with big margin of 628 votes

Ahsan Bhoon of the Asma Jahangir Group won the election of the president of the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) 2021-22 with a big margin of 628 votes against Sardar Latif Khosa of Hamid Khan group.

Ahsan Bhoon polled 1,548 votes against his rival Sardar Latif Khan Khosa of the Hamid Khan-led Professional Group who managed to get 920 votes.

In his victory speech, Bhoon pledged to defend the legal community, the supremacy of the Constitution and end division in the judiciary.He also pledged to strengthen the country's democratic institutions. 

Bhoon said that the bar and bench will have to go along with each other. “The Parliament has weakened. The elected representatives should not fill up their kitty. They should work for the people and betterment of the institution,” he added. SCBA’s secretary slot was also won by Asma Jahangir Group’s candidate Waseem Mumtaz Malik. 

Ahsan Bhoon won with a big margin from Lahore, securing 735 votes whereas Latif Khosa bagged only 277 votes. Nineteen votes were rejected in Lahore. Bhoon took 90 votes from Peshawar while his rival candidate of Hamid Khan Group could bag only 61 votes. 

Similarly, from Islamabad Bhoon got 158 votes and Khosa took 107, from Multan Bhoon got 95 votes and Khosa secured 71, from Hyderabad Bhoon grabbed 28 and Khosa got 21, from Abbotabad he got 28 and Khosa bagged 11, from Dera Ismail Khan Bhoon got 9, Khosa bagged 19. 

In Sukkur Bhoon succeeded in claiming 26 votes and Khosa lagged behind with only 6 votes. Bhoon managed victory almost from all cities except DI Khan where Khosa bagged more votes than Bhoon.

Polling was held under the supervision of Election Chairman Afrasiab Khan, who would announce the official results in Islamabad on Nov 3.
