Anti-terrorism court announced verdict in Baldia factory case after 8 years
The court awarded death sentence to two main accused and acquitted Rauf Siddiqui and others
An anti-terrorism court (ATC) today September 22, awarded death sentence to Abdul Rahman, alias 'Bhola', and Zubair, alias 'Charya' in 2012 Baldia factory fire case. Both were the main accused in this case. This verdict comes out after 8 long years. The families of deceased workers waited for a long time for the justice.
Baldia factory was set on fire by the criminals linked with MQM in 2012 after refusal of extortion money by the owners of the factory. Nearly 270 factory workers were burnt alive in the incident. It was found out later in the investigation that there were no emergency exit in the factory building that increased the deaths. the factory building was also constructed in violation of building rules and laws.
Rauf Siddiqui, Umar Hasan Qadri, Dr Abdul Sattar Khan and
Iqbal Adeeb Khanum have been acquitted for want of evidence while four others
were convicted for facilitating the crime.
