A real young hero who fought against COVID-19

A young doctor in Gilgit- Baltistan (GB) Dr Usama Riaz who had reportedly contracted coronavirus has passed away in on Sunday. He was screening the people coming from Iran and Iraq after visiting religious places and shrines. He got seriously ill two days ago and admitted in a hospital in critical condition.  He has become first casualty of a medical professional in the fight against coronavirus.
According to some reports-Dr Usama was working without proper safety gears. But it was not yet clear that what sort of precautionary measures were taken to protect the doctors-nurses and paramedics working with coronavirus patients.
The Information Department of G-B has confirmed the death, saying Dr Usama Riaz rendered martyrdom while battling against the novel coronavirus.
According to GB health department official Dr Shah Ramzan, the young doctor had fallen sick approximately two nights ago after returning home from work — a screening centre in GB's Juglot tehsil — around midnight. He was tested positive for coronavirus and had been placed on a ventilator.

Quoting his father, the official had said: "He told his family he was tired and went to sleep. However, he didn't wake up in the morning as he usually did. However, the sudden deterioration in his health cannot only be attributed to coronavirus," he had said, adding that people who are diagnosed with the virus do not lose consciousness and become comatose. He had said that a five-member medical board was constituted to probe the incident.
