Protest is not a constitutional right under PTI government
Political activists and legislatures arrested in Islamabad
The
Islamabad police have arrested political activists and lawmakers outside the National
Press Club to foil a protest taking place against the arrest of PTM leader
Manzoor Pashteen today. Police arrested Members of the National Assembly (MNAs)
Mohsin Dawar, Ali Wazir Khan and veteran politician-intellectual and former ANP
senator Afrasiab Khattak. Police also arrested president AWP Punjab Ammar
Rashid and other activists of AWP and PTM.
Both the MNAs
from Waziristan and Khattak were taken into custody outside the National Press
Club along with score of other activists and shifted to the Kohsar Police
Station. They gathered there to organise protest against the arrest of PTM
chief Manzoor Pashteen and other activists.
The civil
society and political activists have reacted strongly against these arrests.
They condemn the government for making peaceful protest as crime. Pakistani
constitution allows the peaceful protest and dissent within constitutional and
legal framework.
