Kabul hotel attack killed 18 including foreigners

The Taliban claimed responsibility for storming the luxury hotel in Kabul and killing at least 18 people. The security forces killed all six gunmen to end the hours long siege. This five star hotel was built in 1960s and considered a landmark building of the Afghan capital. The Afghan Special Forces with the help of Norwegian military officials conducted the operation to end the siege.

“Fourteen foreigners were killed and four Afghans,” interior ministry spokesperson Najib Danish told Afghanistan’s Tolo News, without specifying the nationalities involved. Terrified hotel guests climbed down bed sheets tied to balconies to escape the gunmen rampaging through the hilltop hotel overlooking the Afghan capital.

Some media reports pointed out that the Afghan airline crew was staying at the hotel when attack took place. No further details were given by the officials of Interior ministry.
