French voters rejected both Socialist Party and Republican Party in the first round of the presidential election. Both the outsiders centrist pro- EU Macron and far right anti- EU Marine Le Pen make into the final round on May 7. This is the first time in the history of French politics that both mainstream parties failed to make it into the final round. It shows the strong anti establishment and anti elite mood in the masses.
According to the initial results Macron got 24%, Le Pen 22%, Fillon 19.9% and far left Mellemchon 19.3%. The ruling socialist Party got just around 8%.
A tough fight is expected between Macron and Marine le Pen in the final round.
