Pharma industry and traders won battle against Punjab government

The cartel of pharmaceutical industry and big traders forced the Punjab government to retreat on amendments made in the  Drug Act 1976. After the marathon meeting between representatives of pharma industry and trade and  Punjab government,  it was agreed to withdraw the amendments. The Pharma industry and traders were protesting the harsher punishments for the manufacturing and sale of fake and sub-standard  medicines.

The Punjab government launched the action against fake and substandard medicines in the province. But representative bodies and associations of both pharma industries and medicine traders joined hand to oppose action against the fake medicines. The government also wanted to regulate the pharmacies to control the sale of fake medicines.
